The Big Step
While I was on my bloggy break last week Hailey took her first steps. We've been trying to get her to do it for a little while. Brooke was really trying to help her to take those first steps and she finally did it! Hailey was quite proud of herself, although she fell over when we all started to cheer for her.
I was so excited to see Hailey enter this new stage but at the same time it made me a stop to think. Not that long ago we brought home this totally helpless little person from the hospital. We're watching her grow and develop. She wants to do things on her own and gets a little mad when someone tries to help her. She wants to be more independent. And that is what made me just a little sad.
We're teaching her to do things on her own so that she won't have to depend on us. So that she can grow up to be an adult who does not need her mommy to do stuff for her. I know it's a little ways off still. But, with each new step she takes towards her independence she takes a little piece of my heart with her.

Well done Hailey!!
Sorry you couldn't see my blog, but did you get my email about it?
Excellent on the steps! How fun :-) And what better place to practice walking than a soft sandy beach - that is assuming that's where you're going on vacation ;-) Cherish every step, tooth, stutter, stage that they go through. My oldest is 7, and at any given point when someone asks me what my favorite stage "was" - I say right now without even thinking. You miss some of the stuff when it's gone, but there is never any part of parenting that is better than the current moment. They're always learning and doing something new - you're always learning new things. At least until they're 7 - after that, I have no clue ;-)
Oh how I relate to your post. I look at Matthew every day and realize how fast he is growing up...and he's only 7 months old!!How I wish I could keep him little, but I also look forward to seeing everything that is yet to come!! Yay for Hailey for taking her first steps!!
NOW all the fun starts!!
Oh how precious--I remember when all mine start walking--such a big step towards independence. Enjoy your time with her--congrats to Hailey.
*sigh* Time passes so quickly with our little ones. She is so precious. We always look forward to the "firsts" but just wait until they take off! lol
They start to get into everything! Get ready!!
How sweet--I remember those days. Now --let the chasing begin!
YEAH HAILEY!! As sad as it is for you, you are doing what is best for her so she grows up into a child who tries things, takes chances (I mean that in a good way), and does't give up. So, YEAH for mommy too!
I love the picture of Brooke and Hailey looking at each other. I think they are BOTH taking those steps towards independence.
Congrats Hailey!!!!
Cherish every one of these "firsts" because they really do grow entirely too quickly!!!
Enjoy your trip if I don't get to "talk" to you before you go!
The first steps a baby takes are into your heart.
These precious moments of today,
So treasured and so few,
Are filled with many special joys
For your little one and you.
Before you even know it,
Hailey has learned to crawl,
To walk and talk, to jump and run,
While growing strong and tall.
A day and then a year,
And time has flown so fast.
Those sweet and tender baby years
Are treasures of the past.
Treasure each stage because where they go you can be sure,
In spirit you shall never be alone.
For where you are is what matters most
For that will always be home...
Aww first steps I remember all my kids first steps. What a precious time. enjoy the "firsts" while you can they grow up so quickly.
I can't believe how fast she's growing!
I've been away for a while and look at what all I have missed!
