Thursday Thirteen #4

Thirteen Reasons Why I Blog:

1. I've made lots of new friends- people I really consider to be my friends even though I have never met them.
2. Reading other people's blogs makes me realize that the stuff I go through and the feelings I have are normal.
3. It's a great way to keep family and friends updated with what we've been up to.
4. Everyone else is doing it.
5. I have learned a lot about computers and a little bit about html code.
6. I can express my opinions.
7. I'm making some extra money with my blogs.
8. It distracts me from worrying about things I should probably be worrying about.
9. It keeps from going insane as a stay at home mom with no one but a toddler to talk to all day.
10. Blogging is a great way to learn from other moms who have already been through all of the various stages with their children.
11. It's cheaper than therapy.
12. When Hailey is older she'll be able to look back and read all about herself as a child.
13. I'm addicted to blogging and will start to twitch if I go without.

Tackle It Tuesday- Updated

I'm just updating my Tackle it Tuesday list of things to get done:

  • Finish unpacking- I usually do this as soon as we get home, but I just haven't had time to do it yet.
  • Do laundry- wash and put it away.
  • Go through the stack of mail that arrived while we were away.
  • Try to respond to all of the emails and comments I have waiting for me.

You'll notice the one thing I didn't finish was laundry!

Tackle It Tuesday

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

For this weeks Tackle It Tuesday I don't have an actual project that I worked on. We have been at my parents house since last Thursday, so I didn't have a chance to do any of my tackles that I have planned to get done around the house. Instead since we arrived home yesterday I have several small things I need to get done.

  • Finish unpacking- I usually do this as soon as we get home, but I just haven't had time to do it yet.
  • Do laundry- wash and put it away.
  • Go through the stack of mail that arrived while we were away.
  • Try to respond to all of the emails and comments I have waiting for me.

And that is going to be it for my Tackle It Tuesday this week. Stop by 5 Minutes for Mom to see the other participants. (And, stop by my other blog, Livin' With Me to see some pictures of Hailey from this weekend.)

Fun Monday

This weeks Fun Monday is being hosted by Mariposa's Tales. Here is the assignment she gave us:

"I'll only be asking TWO things-
(1) Please share to us how the NAME of your BLOG was made? I can't wait to hear interesting funny stories!
(2) Please share to us (in words or photo, though a combination of both will be a bonus!) your favorite/ most common dish!"

Well, as for the first question- the name of my blog. When I first started blogging I actually used my last name as the name of my blog as I originally intended for my blog to just be a way to keep our family updated with what was going on with Brooke and Hailey. Over time I started to make new friends and gain lots of readers. I got worried about how open I was about where we lived and what our full names were. So, I decided to be a bit more anonymous. I don't have any spectacular story about where the name came from- it just popped into my head.

For part two- my favorite dish to eat would have to be anything that I do not have to make myself. If I'm not cooking, then I love whatever it is I am eating! My favorite place to go to eat is the Texas Roadhouse.

So, now go visit Mariposa's Tales to see the other Fun Monday participants.

Friday's Feast #2

Appetizer
Have you ever played a practical joke on anyone? If so, what did you do and who was your victim?
No, not that I can think of right now anyways. But, if you asked my dad this question he would have hundreds of stories to tell about all of the jokes he has played on people.

Soup
What do your salt and pepper shakers look like?
They match my dishes and are a cream color with light pink flowers on them. During the winter I use my snowman dishes with matching snowman salt and pepper shakers.

Salad
Where is the next place you plan to visit (on vacation or business)?
Hmmmm- I'd like to visit Disney World or take a cruise, but I think it will probably be a while before our next vacation.

Main Course
What kind of lotion or cream do you use to keep your hands from getting too dry?
Vaseline Intensive Care lotion and I tend to be a bit addicted to using it every single time I wash my hands.

Dessert
Make up a dessert, tell us its ingredients, and give it a name.
Ummmm- chocolate ice cream with hot fudge and peanut butter sauce and I'd call it a "Mouth full of Yummyness"

Tackle It Tuesday

Tackle It Tuesday Meme
I can't believe that it's already my second week doing Tackle It Tuesday. Where does the time go? Anyways- I think this is going to be a very addicting meme. This weekend I was looking around my house thinking about what I could tackle for this week. I came up with quite a list of stuff I want to do, and for this week I picked doing a little reorganizing in my kitchen.

Since Hailey became a toddler most of my kitchen cabinets had to be rearranged to be toddler safe. When I rearranged the cabinets there were some things I just didn't have room for in the higher cabinets. And that stuff ended up on top of my refrigerator. Then while my parents were here at Christmas time my dad installed some cabinet locks to keep Hailey out of the cupboards. (We did leave one cupboard filled with Rubbermaid dishes open for her). So, now I need to clear off the top of my refrigerator and put that stuff back into cupboards.

Another problem in my kitchen is the top of my microwave. For some reason it always seems to gather papers that need to be put away in our desk, bills and receipts that need to be filed, magazines that need to be read, and recipes for the meals that are on my menu for the week. On the left hand side of the microwave is a mug with pens in it (I'm sure most of them no longer work) and Hailey is now tall enough to reach that- so it needs to be moved and the messy pile of notes that is under it need to be taken care of as well. It drives me crazy how messy it looks and so I'm tackling that this week too.

Now here are my after shots. The top of the refrigerator only has a few things on it. The microwave is cleared off. I have put a basket on top of my piano which is at the top of my stairs. Any papers that need to be filed will go into that basket so that I can just grab the basket to take with me when I go downstairs (our desk is downstairs). I also put a little basket on the side of the microwave to keep my recipes for my weekly menu in. It looks much better, don'tcha think?

Fun Monday

This weeks Fun Monday is being hosted by SayreSmiles and here is the assignment she gave us:

"Every day as I go to work, I see things around me that make me laugh. Usually these are in the forms of signs. So take your camera with you as you go about your business and take a picture of the things that make you laugh along the way (but it doesn't necessarily HAVE to be a sign)."

Well, I was at home pretty much all week so I wasn't out and about to see any funny signs, but I still wanted to participate. So I decided to search on the internet for a funny sign. I found lots of hilarious signs, but I decided to pick this one for Fun Monday.

I guess that got lost somewhere in the translation! I can't figure out what it was really supposed to say. Any guesses?

You can see the rest of the participants and all of their funny signs by visiting SayreSmiles.

Friday's Feast #1

I have seen this meme around on some of my friends blogs and it always looks like fun so I thought I'd give it a try. Here is my very first Friday's Feast!

Appetizer
Name one thing that is unique about you.
I do not like any of my food to touch other food on my plate. It must all be kept separate.

Soup
Fill in the blank: My favorite snack is Chips Ahoy Chocolate Chip cookies but I like pretty much everything else too.

Salad
What type of wood do you have for your home’s furnishings?
Oak I guess- but really I have no idea

Main Course
Who do you talk to most often on the phone?
Rich and my mom

Dessert
What level of responsibility do you have in your job?
Is there any higher level than be responsible for preparing a child for the rest of her life? I don't think so- so in my opinion being a stay at home mom is the highest level of responsibility there is.

Thursday Thirteen #2

In honor of Valentine's Day I am going to write my list this week about my Thirteen Favorite Things About Rich:

1. Family is his top priority.
2. His sense of humor.
3. The way he is with Brooke and Hailey.
4. How hard he works to support our family.
5. The way he makes me laugh.
6. His cooking- yummy, yummy!!
7. He's not only my hubby, but my best friend too.
8. He loves Disney World just as much as I do.
9. He understands my need for some "me time" and entertains Hailey so that I can get that time.
10. He tells me everyday how much he loves me.
11. He doesn't complain (too much) about all of the time I spend blogging.
12. He puts up with me (which is not always as easy as it may seem to be)
13. His good looks ;)

Now, obviously I have a lot more things that I love about Rich but I can only list 13 because, well it is the Thursday Thirteen.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Tackle It Tuesday

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

It's my very first Tackle It Tuesday. How very exciting is this? I hope I'm doing it right- someone please tell me if I'm not. If I am correct the way Tackle It Tuesday works is that you pick a project of some sort that you need to get done. You take some pictures and then post the project that you tackled. Then you go over to 5 Minutes For Mom and sign Mr. Linky and visit the other participants.

And so for my first Tackle It Tuesday (which I actually did on Monday so that I could post this on Tuesday) I decided to make it possible to use my treadmill again. We have a little room off our laundry room and it has a treadmill and a TV so that I can work out. I used to use it everyday- but that hasn't happened in a long time. Recently the treadmill has turned into sort of a dumping ground where I've been sticking stuff that I don't feel like taking care of. I'm usually a very organized person, so it bothers me how this has been piling up. And since I really need to start walking on my treadmill again I decided it was important to tackle this project.

So, here is my before picture:
Now I know it's hard to tell, but there really is a treadmill underneath all of that stuff.

And now my after picture:
So, now I can actually get to my treadmill and I still have quite a bit of stuff stored in that room. I think that big blue dog and I have many happy treadmilling days ahead of us.

Fun Monday

I haven't participated in Fun Monday in quite a while. The few times I did participate it was lots of fun, so I've decided it's time for me to start doing it again. This week is being hosted by Ooh, a shiny pen and here is the assignment she gave us:

"Music plays a vital role in most of our lives. It is everywhere. I want to hear the ONE song that is you. The song that whenever it is heard, you smile. I am not looking for the soundtrack of your life, just that one song. Your friends hear it and think of you. You can post the video, the lyrics, the wav file. However you want to post it is great. "

I had a song in mind that I wanted to use- not necessarily because it really describes me, but because it describes something I feel is important that we be reminded of- our kids grow up way too fast. So, I found a video of the song I want to use. It has pictures of someone else's kids and if I knew how to make my own video I'd put pictures of Brooke and Hailey to this song. Someday I'll figure out how to do it.

So now, just listen to the words and if you are an emotional person at all- get your tissues ready.

Now, go and visit Ooh, a shiny pen to see more participants.
