I'm Baaaack

Last week I decided to take a little bloggy break and it was wonderful and refreshing! I'll be blogging this week but probably not a lot because I will be getting things ready for our vacation. I have to try to do all the packing during Hailey's naps, which are growing increasingly shorter by the day. So, I am going to try to get a bit done each day this week.

We haven't decided for sure but we will leave either Friday evening or Saturday morning (it will depend on what time Rich can finish up at work on Friday) and drive to my parents house. We will spend some time on Saturday visiting with my parents and with Rich's family. Then Sunday morning we will fly to our vacation destination. (Rich thinks I'm crazy because I don't think I should tell on the blog where we are going. I've told him some kooky weirdo might try to follow us to our destination. What do you think? Would you tell where you were going?) We will be returning home the following Sunday (Sept 9th).

Anywho- I have digressed quite a bit because I said all of that to say this- I'll be around this week but I won't be back to my usual blogging until after our vacation. I may have to do a bit of recovering but I should be back in full blogging force by September 10th or 11th.

Please offer me some advice-
1- I'd appreciate any suggestions or ideas for flying with an 11 month old.
2- When we arrive at our destination we will not have a rental car as we are staying at an all inclusive resort of sorts. This means there will be no emergency trips to Target. So, please offer some advice of that one thing I must not forget to pack.

Take your own snacks on the plane for Haily(including drinks) and do NOT forget extra wipes. The gift shop probably won't have those.

Defintely pack yourself a bag for Hailey on the plane with snacks, drinks, small toys and books (not noisy ones to disturb other passengers, or put some tape over the speaker to muffle the sound), diapers and baby wipes.

Make sure you have plenty of sunscreen, batteries, a travel type of first aid kit complete with kid and adult meds - not all gift shops have everything you need for whatever ailment may come up not to mention the cost of those things! Depending on how long you are gone - diapers and wipes for the entire trip packed.

Oh and I do tell where I am going when I go away. Just not too many details, like no room number or anything :)
For instance - Adam and
I leave this weekend for our anniversary trip. We are spending 5 days at Walt Disney World without the kids!

The plane - don't sweat it! Your baby will behave better than 75% of the adults on the plane - I've been flying and driving long trips with my kids since they were weeks old, and you'll be just fine. The plane - did you get her a seat? I ALWAYS got my kids their own seat, even when they were tiny - put them in their car seat and they know that they have to sit and wait, just like in the car. That was my saving grace. But, also take a few small toys that do not make noise and some soft books. Snacks are a must . . . really, if you can make sure she's hungry when you get on the plane, that's awesome cuz she'll spend a lot of time snacking and drinking, which also will help her ears. Everyone always says get on the plane first and get situated - I always wait until the last possible minute - why make her sit on there any longer than necessary? Just have your stuff ready when you get on so you have access to the "stuff" during taxi and take off and don't make the other passengers wait for you to get situated. Wipes and Ziploc baggies - you can never have enough of them when you've got a child :-) Have a great trip - and don't worry, even if you forget something, you'll make do . . . it's amazing what you can get by without when you're not at home :-)

Glad your back....hope you have a great vacation. I have never flown with a baby before, but you can check out babycenter.com and search tips for traveling or something like that. Sorry I am not more help there. I would say make sure you pack lots of diapers and wipes, sunscreen, and snacks. The rest you can manage without, but those are going to be needed....enjoy your trip!

Welcome back!
Are you on your way to Cancun?
Mom and Dad went to some nice all inclusive resorts there. They had a blast.
I hope you have a beautiful time and that you make great family memories.

I wish you all a great time! As far as flying just make sure you have a cup or bottle for take off and landing to help the ears. My kids always do well with snacks, favorite toys, and books. I wouldn't worry too much about forgetting that "one thing" because usually inclusive places have just about everything. Have fun!!

Bring an extra bag to carry on board for Hailey's change of clothes, diapers, wet wipes, one or two of her favorite toys, her formula milk (if she's no longer breastfeeding) and her own snacks. With the strict regulations, make sure you have enough liquid for her (juice or milk) till you reach the customs area, because they won't let you bring in any fluid of more than a 100ml in each container. And if you have not requested for a bassinet, make sure you ask for one now. It helps when she's sleeping and you can just put her in the bassinet.

Have fun and have a great holiday!! (I have no problem blogging about where I'm going, but I don't exactly blog about the exact location and probably blog about it only AFTER my vacation).

Make sure you have a clean shirt and shorts for yourself. There is little point in changing the kids' clothes after a blowout when you are covered in poop, too. LOL Leaky diapers take no prisoners...

Well,I don't have advice for an 11 month old, but I had to fly 6 times (3 there and back) with my 9 month old in the past 2 months. Make sure you have plenty of snacks, cheerios etc. I had about 12 diapers in my diaper bag.... just in case... you never know when a flight may be delayed. I had her lovely blanket in the diaper bag as well. That helped her curl up and nap on the plane...admittedly it was only for about 20 minutes, but some sleep is better than none. Like the PP said, make sure you have a change of clothes for yourself as well.

Make sure you have something for the baby to drink or eat on take off and landing. The pressure can be a killer on the ears.

As much trouble as it sounds, pack EVERYTHING you have a question about. YOURS AND THE BABY'S. It's better to have it and NOT need it than to need it and not have it! Especially headache, sinus, sore throat lozenges, stomach, fever medicene along with your usual first aid kit. i.e. pepto bismol, teething gel, bandaids, cortisone creams, benedryl, etc. Don't forget personal items such as razors, shaving cream, toothpaste and brushes, ahem..."ladie's neccessities" all these things are much more expensive when you have to purchase them at a resort or gift shop. I would much rather spend my money on something fun!

I also take along lysol to spray down the counters, tv and remote, chairs, desks, and bathrooms and any other surface I come in contact with at the place where I am staying. Another thing I do is take my own sheets and pillows for the beds. Now, I realize that I may have a problem *smile* but I FEEL much better!
Along with the lysol, I like to have a can of air freshener. Sometimes the rooms have a smell that isn't pleasant to my nostrils. I have also been known to take small candles to freshen up the room in the event I forget the freshener. This also gives the room a little bit of "home" comfort which may help with a little one.

Since you're flying, I am not sure about taking the aerosol cans.....

Glad you're back.

I'm thinking of taking a break soon, too.

And for goodness sakes, think about YOU some! There's nothing at all wrong with thinking about yourself occasionally!

You're worth it.

We flew to Seattle from California with a stop-over in Oakland (We did not get off the plane). Our daughter was about 11 months at the time. She did really great. We brought snacks (Goldfish crackers, Cheerios, etc.). We brought an empty sippy cup (because they usually won't let you take a cup with liquid) and put some juice in it.

She slept most of the way. Recently, we flew to London and then from Zurich to California. The DVD player was a gift from heaven, seriously.

My best advice? Don't take it too seriously. You will survive! :) Have fun!
