Look Great in 2008 Weight Loss Challenge

SCROLL DOWN FOR WORDLESS WEDNESDAY

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketAnd so begins a new challenge. Actually it started last week, but I was too sick to care about losing weight last week. Well, that's not true- I always care about losing weight. I was too sick to care about eating healthy and doing exercise is actually the truth.

I participated in the May Day Weight Loss Challenge and did not have much success. Truth be told- I gained 3 pounds. There were some weeks where I tried really hard and had some good results. But, most of the time I was too busy worrying about eating my Chips Ahoy Chocolate Chip cookies to be really serious about losing weight.

One of the mistakes I think I made was that I was trying to lose weight for the wrong reasons. First I wanted to reach my goal weight before my brother's wedding. Then I was hoping to lose all the weight before my cousin's wedding. Then I thought- if I could just lose this weight before we go on vacation I will be skinny in our pictures. Each time I would realize that it just wasn't possible to reach my goal by the time the event would be here. Then I would give up. So, this time- I am going to lose this weight so that I will be healthy. Not so that I can be skinny and look better for special occasions. Although that will be nice too, it is not my main reason for trying to lose weight.

So, my goal is to lose 25 pounds. If I want to reach my pre-pregnancy weight I will have to lose 30 pounds. But, for now that sounds too overwhelming to me. So, my goal is to lose 25 pounds.

In order to reach my goal I am going to start walking everyday again. I will do it at least 5 days a week. I am going to work on keeping myself busy so that I am not tempted to snack every time I feel the slightest bit bored. I will also drink more water.

I am going to add a weight loss ticker to my side bar to track my losses. (I used to keep it hidden at the bottom of my blog, hoping no one would notice it) I'm also going to add a little reward box on my side bar with the rewards I plan to give myself for each 5 pounds that I lose. These will both be for my benefit and to help me stay motivated- but you are welcome to look too.

See you next week for my first weigh-in! Check out the other participants (or join yourself!) at Tales from the Scales.

Sometimes mini goals are good, they allow you to focus on a more do-able short term goal. I use two pounds a week as my shortest goal and about ten pounds per month as my medium range goal. I find that less daunting then the 122 pounds that was before me at the very start. Keep going!! You'll get there! See you next week.

The big question--Will I or won't I?
I pray we all will.
Thinking about it.
I like the comment above about concentrating on two pounds a week.

Glad to hear you're feeling better. Nothing spells disaster better for any will-power related issues than feeling like crap.

It's good that you've decided to make weight loss about health rather than upcoming events. That's definitely a step in the right direction! WE CAN DO THIS!!!

I hope you'll press on and on...to whatever you want to accomplish. I know the feeling of being tempted to eat unhealthy food. Heheh. I always reason, eating this or that once in awhile couldn't hurt me..Hehe. And before long I've finished the whole pack! OMG!

Happy walking!

Good for you for trying again! And yes, staying healthy is the best motivation of all. I should know because I was definitely looking at an early death had I not lost weight.

You have great goals! Can I suggest adding some hand weights in there? You'll be surprised at how much it helps.

Hope you have a successful week! :)

Great start having a great attitude toward it! I wish you tons of luck. I am down 25 pounds since my prepregnancy weight with Matthew but have another 30 to go to reach my goal. I have fallen off big time, but have been trying to get back to focusing. Maybe I'll sign up too! :)
Good Luck to you!!!

Focus on the mini goals. It's much more encouraging. Hoping you are back to 100% health! Glad you are back for the new challenge.
(LOVE your wordless Wednesday photo. That is just TOO TOO FUNNY!)

I was the same way about losing weight. The only way I've ever been successful was when I decided to do it for my health. That was before my last pregnancy. Then I lost all my pregnancy weight and was doing great, but don't know what happened. Now I weigh almost as much as I did at 9 months! AACK! It's totally for my health too - and that really is the best way to go about it. As Valleygirl said - WE CAN DO THIS!

I just joined a Biggest Loser contest at John's fire station and it really is helping to have a buddy. I have a 25-lb goal too but I'm taking it 5 lb at a time. That seems to be helping a lot. Good luck on yourS!

Congratulations!! I am so proud of you. Doing it to be healthy really is the best reason because as you said...all the other reasons come and go. The best part is making the lifestyle change - you will be setting a great example for Hailey as well. She will learn how to eat healthy and exercise as part of a lifestyle and not just as a diet. Way to go!! And, hey, those chips ahoy cookies don't have to be crossed off the list totally...they just become a sometime treat. I save my treats like that for when I have a bad day (I'm an emotional eater so I tend to overeat when I am stressed, etc....makes it hard to lose weight! I find food comforting) or I only eat half of one, etc. I LOVE your rewards and that you are treating yourself for your success. I can't wait to hear how it goes for you. I wish I could get myself back into exercising. I just seem to run out of hours in the day now that school is back in session.

Best of luck to you this week Melanie! I've also lost weight in the past for weddings and events with no thought to what I would do afterwards. I always gained. I think you are definitely on the right track with the goal of becoming healthier!

I'm glad you jumped on board for the new challenge. It sounds like you have the right frame of mind so you can do this!! I really like the idea of adding the rewards for every five pounds!! Good luck and I can't wait to see how well you do this time.
